Bitterness is the root of all evil - cut it out today!

By Moabi Pitsi

In Hebrews 12:15, the bible advises “See to it that no one misses the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many” . All of us, regardless of age and our state of mind, face many things that are unfair and unjust. These things hurt. When we hold on too tightly to them the pain also becomes unbearable. Research shows that about 70% of people are angry about something. This means, most of our time, there are things we don’t like about ourselves, others and the universe. This anger is at times difficult to see but is a poison in the lives of people who harbor anger.

Avoid planting bitterness

We constantly see the fruits of bitterness every day: anger, wrath, slander, hate, and malice (or desire to see another suffer). There are many things that happen to us as we grow up: people cheat us, lied to us, gossip about us, scheme against us— and some of these things last as long as life. For your own good, we must learn to let go of these things. For your own emotional and spiritual health— you decide to let go.It does not do you any good to go around hating anyone. Don’t you just hate it when you meet that person everytime and that feeling comes back again. Don’t you just hate it when the person reappears and your schemes start kicking in.It is not ony foolish to stay angry on what someone else did to you—it is evil. It is the planting, feeding and watering of bitterness that will eventually hamper God’s blessings for your life.

Get rid of bitterness

People with bitterness think that a root bitterness is never seen. But everyday, we see bitter examples of the fruit of bitterness. It is buried deep in pain and hurt in our hearts and subconscious minds. It leads you to say nasty things behind people’s back. It bears the fruit of extramarital affairs. It also drops on your face the constant threat feeling tired to do anything with or about your life.

People with bitterness harbour unforgiveness and resentment, and wonder why you cannot lead a life of victory. They also wonder why they cannot get along with other people and why they cannot be happy. They don't realize that their hearts are poisoned. To overcome bitterness, we must understand ourselves.

We must ask ourselves hard questions of what makes us bitter and why.We must ask ourselves why are we so negative to things, peole and life.We must ask ourselves why we cannot get along with people. By doing these, you will be taking steps to overcome and change your life from being that of bitternes. You know the amount of bitterness in your heart. Start today. Do not let bitterness take root in your life.Amen.

Amen, you can never justify your bitterness you must confront it and overcome it! Thanks for this post! It's a great reminder to not hold on to bitterness especially because you mentioned it is visible.
